Court starts proceedings on 58.7 bln rbl case against Norilsk

KRASNOYARSK, Aug 4 (PRIME) -- The Krasnoyarsk Region Arbitration Court has started consideration of a 58.7 billion ruble suit of the Federal Fisheries Service against metals producer Norilsk Nickel, an official told PRIME late on Tuesday.

Hearing of the case was scheduled for September 3.

A fuel tank at Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company, part of Norilsk Nickel group, lost pressure on May 29, 2020 and leaked out 21,000 tonnes of fuel and lubricants into the river Ambarnaya, causing a fire.

The Federal Fisheries Agency said on July 29 that it sued Norilsk Nickel for 58.7 billion rubles to recover damage to the biological resources. The amount includes direct damage of 3.6 billion rubles due to the fish death and a 55 billion ruble payment for recovery of the biological resources.

The Krasnoyarsk Region court earlier charged Norilsk Nickel 146.2 billion rubles for environment damage. Norilsk Nickel did not appeal aganst the ruling.
